My heart was thumping…….he was there……his three heads spewing fire, ice, and lightning. I was ready. He was posed: ready to incinerate any creature that dare come near him. Whether it be a squirrel or a bold adventurer. I could not turn back now- I knew what had to be done, and it will be….
Chapter 2
Nortik city
I was getting really irritated waiting in line for the new armor store that just opened in nortik city. I was a warrior in training, my name was Chrons. My friend, Carson, was waiting in line with me. To pass time we read over 23 flyers we got from the general store. All of them said the same thing;
March 10, 1032.
Come to this store downtown in nortik city. Only the best quality items money can by!
Also, you’ll never find any better prices for all your everyday needs! Whether you’re battling a dragon or searching for treasure, we will have it!
When I finally finished the what seemed to be millionth flyer it was mine and Carson’s turn to enter the store. We were amazed at what we saw: all armor from a bronze helmet to a large, shining platinum plate body. This store really had all that we needed. We looked up at a price tag on an empty display. Again what we saw surprised us: 55,000 gold coins. Not in stock.
I opened my backpack to see how many coins I had. I had around 20,000 coins, a map, some flyers, an iron scimitar, a steel kite shield and horn from a unicorn I had slain earlier. I went to the shop keeper and asked him how much for the iron plate body; pant leggings and helmet were altogether. The shop keeper said around 5000 coins. I didn’t want to waste money because I wanted to save up for the object that was not on display but I was in desperate need of some armor so I bought it.
When I came out of a dressing room I had my armor on and Carson was waiting for me with a fancy new bow and some arrows. We left the shop and went onto a sunny hill for lunch. After lunch we went down the other side of the hill towards the Nortikian forest so we could get to the fort of yarrum where we would go under ground and venture to the capital city of Raseac.
The nortikian forests were known for there deadly monsters and camouflaged traps. I thought this was a time to brush up on my skills, Carson thought it was a time to run like heck. When we were in the forest Carsons knees were shaking like there was no tomorrow. He was right in some sort of way; the forest was a creepy kind of dark: not like a dark dark, but an evil dark. I heard running footsteps of animals and humans. I heard the fast swichak of traps being sprung but most of all I heard Carsons knees.
After about 35 minutes in the forest a bush made a noise. Carson’s knees made a tick tick tick tick noise. Then out of the bush a small, green object jumped. I threw out my scimitar and my shield. I was ready to take on whatever the green thing was. The object landed on the ground, panting deeply. It was a goblin: not an adult one, but more of a lesser teen.
The goblin, scared to see me, reared backward and then forced itself forward with its powerful hind legs. It flew through the air in its attack position and yelled a high squeal. While it was flying through the air I brought the iron scimitar down hard on its poor little head. The head would have broken instantly if I used the sharp of my blade but I loved and used the flat side.
The goblin, very dazed, ran back into the bush still squealing. I was about to tell Carson to get up off the ground and come on when the same bush made another noise. I looked at the bush and then another, bigger green object jumped out of the bush. I again grabbed my scimitar and shield off the ground and waited.
The next goblin, a full grown one, threw itself on top of me despite the sword I held in my hand. The goblin was on top off me getting ready to feed my face to its family when it roared in pain started gagging hard. It reached up to its neck and started to claw as if there was an object stuck in its throat. At that moment the goblin fell over, gagged, and died.
I went over to the dead body and inspected the throat. At first I saw nothing but then my eye spied a steel arrow stuck through its thought. I looked over at Carson, he shook his head. I though about where in the world this arrow could have come from. It seemed impossible to tell.
Chapter 3
A stranger
When we finally crossed the nortikian forest we came to the fort of fort yarrum. This small wooden castle is home to many dwarfs that own the mine known as the dwarven mines. Me and Carson went a small shop and grabbed a steel pick ax. More money spent.
We were going to mine some ore, smelt them in a furnace, then forage them into weapons we could sell for a very large prophet.
We decided to keep moving on and we descended into the dwarven mines. The stairs were never-ending. After about 15 minutes of descending down stairs I came to the mine itself. A large tunnel with many rocks of different elements, furnaces and anvils for foraging items into weapons.
Dwarves were waiting, some mining, some not. Other people had the same idea as us. I went to a large, tan wall. A sign in front said that the rock was copper ore. Carson went to a huge, gray bolder. Another sign told him it was tin ore. We mined and mined till we had blisters on our hands. Then we went over to a large furnace and smelted our ore into bronze bars. After that we hammered them into weapons and armors.
After we were done that we set off down the tunnel. After all the furnaces were gone only a few dwarfs were wandering the long tunnel and some rats squeaked by. After a few minutes we came upon a sign, it read:
Danger!
The rest of the tunnel can be very hazardous. Venture on at your own cost. Next exit Raseac.
I wasn’t scared so decided to go, but I had to convince Carson to come. As soon as we set foot on the other side of the sign a small rock gnome jumped out at us. I hesitated then drew my blade, I whacked the gnome hard in the neck and its little head went flying off. Its body picked itself up and searched around for its head. When it found its head it picked it up, placed it in its neck, and ran into the darkness.
After the fight with the gnome we set off down the tunnel again and came upon a fork in the tunnel. Immediately Carson said left, I agreed. As we went along the tunnel seemed to have more of a black glow to it and we heard noises- as if something was breathing.
Then we came upon a large pit filled with glowing black creatures with red eyes-hellhounds. The sight of the deadly creature made my heat stop and my breathing fail. This monster was a demon in the form of a wolf. This creature was rarely seen and some of the most courageous adventures could not stand up to these deadly creatures.
One of the hounds spotted us and jumped on us but was sent flying back in mid air and landed a few feet away from us: dead. I went over to the body and inspected the thought first of all. What I saw amazed me; there in the thought was another steel arrow. Then Carson screamed.
At least five hellhounds were jumping through the air straight at us. Three steel arrows were flying through the air and hit three of the hellhounds: but two were still left. The two dodged at least four arrows and each time I could not figure out where the arrows were coming from- not from Carson. It was like a guardian angel trying to protect us.
The two hellhounds hit us hard. I was almost knocked unconscious by the weight of the creature. A steel arrow hit the hellhound hard in the heart and it let out a cry of pain. It fell off me but left a large scar where my armor was not. An arrow hit the hound that was on Carson and it went flying at least 5 feet because of the impact.
I heard a loud howl from the pack of hellhounds and just like that they were gone. And the last sight I saw was somebody wearing green velvet with a bow and arrow. The person slipped off my helmet and attended to Carson.
Chapter 4
Sean
When I woke up I was no longer in the mines but in a cozy shack. There were pictures of dragons on the wall and a small table for about three. There were a few small bed and two cots. Was laying on one and Carson on the other
I had a small girl about four leaning over me looking at me curiously. When I opened my eyes she jumped back and yelled “mommy! Mommy” The man is waking up”.
“Well get the water a bread off the table”.
“Ok mommy.”
A lady dressed in a green velvet cloak with a brown threaded rope as a belt. She walked up to me and asked if I would like some tea. I said yes and she walked towards an iron kettle on the stove. I ushered for Carson to get up.
“What?”
“Wow, those hellhounds must have got to you; you sure are grumpy.”
“Oh, be quiet.”
I felt a cold cloth being put on my right shoulder. I looked over and saw the same girl tending to my scar from the hellhounds.
“Hi!” She said.
Hello, who are you?”
“I’m Teras!”
She was dressed in a silk nightgown and had a small furry thing with her-a rat.
“Leave him alone Teras, he’s bin through enough.”
“What day is today?” Carson finally asked
“It’s tomorrow!” Teras exclaimed
“She means it was yesterday was yesterday we found you.” Said her mother from across the room, “your tea is done sir.”
“Thank you>”
As I sipped my tea I thought.
“Who are you people?”
I looked up from my tea.
“I am….Chrons…. and this is my friend Carson.”
“Well you two were lucky to have my fight those hellhounds for you, is not you were dead. Say, Chrons? Did you know that that scar on your shoulder will bring powers only demons would have?”
“You say that so calmly.”
“That’s because we are taking care of the chosen one in our own house.”
At the word “chosen one” I fainted.
A few hours later I awoke. The only people in the house were me and the little girl who was sewing a pair of gloves out of a red material. A hunk of blue material was next to her.
“Where are Carson and your mother”?
“There outside in the field. Mommy is trying to teach Carry to shoot a bow”.
“Its CarSON, not Carry!
At that moment Carson and the women walked through the door. I asked the women what her name was when she sat down.
“Legoseanary, L-e-g-o-s-e-a-n-a-r-y. Oh, and S-e-a-n as in seen
“Can I just call you Sean, err, for short?”
“Sure?”
The next day me, Carson and Sean set off to Raseac. We dropped Teras off at her grandfather’s house. Sean shot a chicken for food and put it in her back pack. I put on my armor and got ready for the trip. Carson borrowed some of Sean’s leather armor and put that on. Sean herself put an impressive red dragon hide body, some red dragon hide chaps and some red dragon hide wrist guards.
“Pretty fancy” I said when she came out of her room, my great grand father slew a red dragon when he was alive. He was one of the greatest dragon slayers alive. The only thing stronger than a red dragon is a black greater dragon or…..” her voice trailed off, “the king dragon……”
“Who”?
“The king dragon, he killed my great grandfather”.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that”.
Then after that we set off towards the capital city of Raseac. It was only a few minutes to the capital but that few minutes where like the cry of a hellhound.
Chapter 5
The sword
When we reached Raseac the streets were crowded with people trying to rip people off.
There were stores crowded with customers. We went to a store with not so many people in it. I went straight up to the counter and asked how much I could sell my wepons I smelted in the dwarven mines.
“Well,” he said as I pulled out all my weapons from my backpack, “I would say about 500 gold pieces for each. If you smelted 24 wepons that’s 12,500 gold coins. That’s the most in years!”
As I dug into my backpack I saw something red. I looked closer at it and saw it was a pair of gloves I pulled them out of my backpack and the storekeeper gasped. The whole store froze. They were Blood gloves, a rare, valuable item.
“Where did these come from”?
Then Carson said “same here”
I looked over and Carson had some identical gloves only they were a greenish blue color. Carson had aqua gloves then I knew where they came from! Teras must have made them when I woke up after fainting! That’s what she was doing!
W e both put them on. A perfect fit. The store owner offered 1400 coins for them but I refused, these were a gift. I went down to a bank to store my money. I now had 27,500 coins, not much longer.
Then I saw a crowd gather around a wooden stage where a nicely dressed man was about to pull a white sheet off an object. I went to join the crowd. In a minute or two the man pulled the sheet off and showed the crowd the object. Most people gasped, some fainted.
It was a dark red sword, not a scimitar but a long, thick, straight sword that only curved a bit at the top. The handle was made of solid gold and a few silver strips for grip. It was a legendary dragon M.E. long sword. Only to be held by the chosen one. The bidding for this item started at 20,000 gold coins. Then went to 20,500.then 20,750.then 21,550. Then 21,900. Then all the way to 24,550. Then to 27,000. The bidding stopped there. Then I remembered that I had 27,500 coins in my bank!
“27,500” I called. All eyes looked at me.
“Sold”! The man said. A large cheer came from the crowd as the magnificent sword was passed to me. This legendary sword belonged to the dragon slayer Atrice the 5th, and it was all mine! This weapon could kill a hellhound with ease. I might become a hero because of this weapon.
Then I remembered an old saying my father use to say;
Warriors don’t become great because of their outer appearance, but by what is on the inside.
I decided to go find Carson and Sean again. I found them in a jewelry store checking out amulets. When I walked in the storekeeper fainted at the sight of my weapon. At this a mugger jumped out from behind a shelf with a small steel sword. He had a sack and started to fill it with enchanted amulets and rings.
When he saw me he tried to strike me with his weapon. All I had to do was put my new dragon long sword out in front of me. His steel sword hit mine and mine slowly sliced through it-like it was burning his sword.
The half of his sword fell on the ground and he ran out as fast as he could. When the store keeper woke up he thanked us and gave us each an enchanted amulet, one of defense for Carson, one of accuracy for Sean and one of attack for me.
We thanked the man and said we were glad to be of service and went on our way.
“Where did you get that weapon”? Sean asked after a while
“An auction, why”? Then Sean broke out in tears.
“That sword belonged to my great grandfather Atrice the 5th”. She said as she tried to stop crying. “They were gambling with a precious item”
Chapter 6
A story
By the time we were out of the capital in a sunny field we sat to rest.
“Let me tell you a story” Sean said. “250 years ago my great, great grandfather forged that sword with his bear hands and the help of a now extinct race of dwarves. He was the first person to find metal that actually grows on the remnants of dead dragons.
When he found this material he found it was very strong and valuable. He forged this metal into a strong sturdy sword. When it was found out that this metal grows off dead dragons people began to “farm” dragons.
This event caused the dragon population to decrease rapidly until there were only around 130 dragons left. Dragons, being very intelligent, devised a plan to rebel against their owners. This age was called the great rebellion.
At this time my great grandfather, being only a small child and was witnessing an extraordinary event; the birth of a tri-headed dragon. This dragon grew quickly and its middle head learned the ways of fire breathing. As it grew its left head developed the ability to breathe ice. The dragon’s right head was an odd one. It developed an ability to breathe electricity but takes time to recharge.
This dragon became a part of the dragon rebellion and took on some of the most powerful dragons and won. This dragon’s potential could take it to the top”. Sean stopped to get a drink of water then continued, “This dragon became the king dragon, a fierce creature that has no other desire but to kill.
When my great great grandfather died he passed on his precious sword to his son, Atrice the 5th. He became great by slaying Pyrefeinds then demons. He and some men saved a city from a small raid of greater demons. He then moved onto dragons.
He later became so strong that he decided to challenge the king dragon. He killed many dragons to get to him, but was killed by the king. The dragon had the best mach it ever had and was weakened. Before he died he cursed the dragon and said that the chosen one would defeat him, the one who wields this sword shall defeat him.
That’s you Chrons-you are destined to kill the king dragon. All we need to do is get you some dragon armor and an anti-dragon shield. Ill gives you all my money, so will Carson. I have 54,200 coins. I get it from killing creatures. What about you Carson?”
“I have 6,030 coins”.
“Good, Chrons, get ready for some tough times”.
“I am” I replied, “I am”
Chapter 7
The dragon rider
We were getting ready to venture back to the city of Nordic, I was sure the item not on display was the rare dragon armor. All we needed was an anti-dragon shield. We were on our way to the large hole that connected to the dwarven mines.
“Lets NOT go towards the hellhounds this time” Carson said oddly
“What’s the matter? Scared?”
“No, just…uh… making sure Sean doesn’t get hurt.”
“Sure.”
The descend into the mines was easer this time because of an elevator. It was a cage made of wood with a pulley system attached to it. When we reached the bottom people were stirring around everywhere. People sold maps and guides. People selling the skins of the rough hobgoblin and the stealthy black fox.
I spied a hook of a wall creature. People have only lived long enough to see the arm before they are pulled in. The shell of a stone beetle and the skull of a Pyrefeind. Some people were getting ready to venture to the fort of fort yarrum.
There was a cage containing a black demon, one containing deadly red spiders, and one with a flesh-eater. I readied my weapon and became ready for my trip into the black yonder.
When Carson was ready, Sean was ready and I was also we set off into the tunnel. For a while we saw nothing but then we saw a crack in a wall and a red hand popped out at us. I pulled out my dragon long sword and whacked the arm so hard it went flying off.
The creature roared in pain and went back into the crack. Then I herd running footsteps. I readied myself for battle and waited, and then I saw an odd glow off in the distance.
“What’s that”?
“I think it’s a lantern or a fire”
It was a fire alright. A walking, breathing, seeing ball of fire: or in other words a dragon. This dragon, only a young blue dragon was running at top speed. When it saw us it stopped immediately: only then I noticed large, steel bit in its mouth. Like the one you would see on a horse. The bit had a long, leather strapped to it and that led to the dragons back.
There on the back was a man, dressed in an odd kind of chain male. He only had a breast piece of chain male and long, studded leather pants. The only thin that was different from him and any other person was his helmet.
It was made of a brass-looking material. It had horns on both sides only covered half his head.
“Who goes there”? The man said
“Three adventures sir”. I said scared
“Hmmm….. I challenge thy to a duel”! He said
“No way you-” Carson started to say but I interrupted him
“We...I mean I accept your offer”.
He made a laughing noise and jumped off his dragon. He made some hand movements and his dragon lay down. He was saving his dragon for if he was defeated. Then he ran at me and pulled out an iron flail. This was a large ball of iron with spikes on it. The ball was attached to a chain that was attached to a piece of wood for holding.
He swung at me and I held out my shield. The impact of the blow put a small dent in my shield. Then I took my dragon long sword and swung as hard as I could at his face. He ducked ad swung at my feat. I stepped back just enough to avoid the collision.
Then I took a shot at his feet. He jumped up and landed on my sword. He bashed his flail down on my back and then went for another attack to break my armor. I rolled out of the way and he hit a large stone. Sparks flew and lit up the cave.
At this his dragon became scared and came running down the tunnel. He was running fast and I ducked into a corner. The man came running at me thinking he had me when his own dragon stepped on him. The crushing weight of the dragon broke every bone in his body. The dragon then attacked me.
I jumped out of the corner and faced the dragon head on. It was charging down the tunnel and ready to stomp on me. When it came just close enough I did a kind of backward summersault and jabbed it in the foot. It roared in pain and came back again.
This time I dodged it and grabbed the leather strips. I got onto the dragons back and jabbed it hard. It tried to kick me off but I held on to tight. When it was tired from trying to buck me off I ran up the neck of the beast and stabbed it right in between the eyes.
It cried out in pain and then fell to the ground, its limp body no longer breathing.
“Way to go”! Carson and Sean screamed
“Ah, it was nothing. I need a better weapon though, just for now.”
Then I had an idea. I went to the dragon’s leg and skinned it to the bone.
I took the skin and put it in my pack. Then I pried out the largest bone and cleaned it. The bone was about as big as me and was sturdy. Then I ran to the mouth and took out four of the sharpest teeth. I put the teeth in my pack, put my sword away and did one last thing.
I Went to the dead body of the man and took the helmet. Then I ventured to the fort of fort yarrum. When we arrived at the furnaces I went to the closest furnace. I took some ore and smelted it. When it was still melted I took four tiny pieces and placed them on the end if my bone. Then I took the teeth from my pack and put them on these pieces of metal. I placed the bone in the fire for a second the brought it out.
The teeth stuck perfectly to the bone. Then I sat down at carved a small handle in the middle of the bone. Then I took some an iron bar from nearby and placed it in the furnace. When it melted I pulled it out and placed it on the place where I carved the bone.
Then Sean cooked the chicken she had bin saving. We all had a feast and celebrated the defeat of the dragon rider.
Chapter 8
Not there
When we left fort yarrum we headed west towards the city of Nordic
“What’s that weird weapon you have bin holding around”? Carson asked me after a few minutes
“Oh, I just made it myself out of some dragon teeth and a dragon bone. I call it a D’bone spear. Pretty cool, huh”?
“Yes, it’s very impressive”
“Thanks”
When we came to the nortikian forests it was still the same. We walked through it with ease. Then we came to the hill where I and Carson had lunch the day we first began out adventure. Then we walked into the city.
People were awed. Three foreigners walking through town with unknown weapons and items from faraway lands. We marched right up to the store that had the armor and went in. we did a little looking and then went to the armor. It was not there. So we walked up to the store owner.
“Where is that armor that was not on sale a week ago? I desperately need it”. I whined
“I think that fancy stuff was sold out”. He said calmly.
“WHAT”?!?!?! I said very madly.
“Yep, the last set was bought by a tough looking fellow sent by the king himself”. He answered.
I was pretty devastated by what he said. I wanted to attack him right here and now.
“Do you know where I can get an anti-dragon shield”? I asked
“The last one was bought by an old fellow who lived in the Carsenian Mountains”. He answered.
We exited the shop and went to a small park for lunch.
“Sean, Carson. We have to cross the mountains then go to the king in Carsenia city. It’s the only way to get the armor we need”.
“But if we cross the mountains we will cross the ogre lair. We don’t want to go there”.
I had to think about it but then I decided to go. If we didn’t we wouldn’t be able to get the armor.
“We will go anyway. We must get this armor”.
So with that we packed up and headed east towards the mountains and going towards the ogre lair as well.
Chapter 9
Ogre attack
When the trees from the forests decreased the rocks and gravel increased. The ogre lair was at the base if pyre mountain. This mountain received its name from the large amount of Pyrefeinds that live on the mountain. Ogres are so deadly because of there aggressive nature but there big bones can be sold for a lot of money.
While I was walking down a steep path something caught my eye. It was shiny and looked skinny. I stopped and saw it was a needle. I looked farther into the bush and found some thread. I had no idea where this came from but I didn’t care.
I then had an idea. I opened my pack and brought out the skin from the dragons leg. I sewed it all together and made a covering. I took this covering and put it on my D’bone spear. It only fit from the handle down buy it still looked cool.
Buy the time I was done I looked up and we were on top of a ledge. I the pit was a whole bunch of pale green giants; ogres. Though odd and primitive these creatures seemed to be a bit civilized. They lived is mud huts and had made weapons from stone and wood.
They weren’t walking around naked: they wore cloth robes and dresses. There were stair-looking slopes coming from the pit so they could get in and out of it. Ogres were chopping down trees and walking around. There were guard ogres and ogres just sitting around doing nothing.
In the middle of this pit was a crystal clear pond with no animals in it. This lake was known to make anybody stronger and that’s why people come here. Luckily, ogres did not have enough common sense to drink from it; they hated how water tasted. Ogres drank sap 24/7 to satisfy their thirst.
One of the ogres spotted us and walked towards us dumbly. When it reached us it poked me and I sliced one of its fingers off with my spear. It just looked dumbly at its finger than walked away. When it reappeared it had 2 other ogres with it.
These ones were different. They wore a type of stone armor. One only had its stomach showing and the other its head. They saw us and ran toward us. The each had a weapon. One had a wooden club and the other a large stone hammer.
I aimed my spear and Carson and Sean readied their bows.
“Shoot on 3”. I said, “1…..2…..3”!
I chucked my spear at the one with its belly exposed-direct hit! Carsons and Sean’s arrow hit the same one as me. The ogre fell in pain and burst open with many gooey liquids inside. Then a family of goblins came to feast on the dead body.
The other ogre became outraged and slammed its hammer down hard in front of me. The ground in front of me shook as the ogre came in for another attack. Carson shot another arrow and hit it right below the eye. This blinded it long enough for me to run and grab my bone spear.
I threw the spear at the back of the ogres head and it fell to the ground with a mighty roar. By this time many other ogres gathered and were watching us. Then the ogres arouse and came back at me. It tore the spear from the back of its head and through it at me. I dodged it and it hid and ogre in the crowd. It was hit in the chest so hard it went right through the body.
Then I took my dragon long sword and prepared for battle. The ogre came running at me and tried to swat me like a bug but I evaded it and stabbed his lower waist. Then he swung and almost hit me in the head.
“Go Chrons”! Sean and Carson screamed together
I could feel sweat bead down my neck and hit the scar from the hellhounds. I looked at the scar: it seemed to pump bigger and then go back to normal size. With each pump it hurt more and grew even more. It grew until my whole left shoulder looked like that of a hellhound. It was taking hold of my body and grew until I was down on all fours. Then I felt it take hold of me completely.
Then I howled and saw myself grow a demon-like fur. Then I had compound eyes and sharp claws. I grew a snout and felt a tail emerge. My teeth sharpened and I felt the sudden desire to kill; I wanted blood. I turned into a hellhound before my friends eyes.
I was granted powers beyond my imagination. I howled again and I was a hellhound. I went running at the ogre faster than I could have dreamed. I took a swipe at his right leg and cut through the stone and saw a cut starting to spew blood. I took another run at his leg and bit it. His leg came straight off and he fell to the ground while I chewed the leg. Then the ogre still tried to take me down.
It took me by surprise and hit me in the side with a mighty punch. I flew about 30 feet then flipped myself so I landed on my feet and skidded to a halt. As a hellhound I could easily take this ogre down; it was just it wouldn’t give up. An arrow in the eye, a spear in the back of the head, a chewed off leg! You could dip this thing in lava and it wouldn’t give up.
I decided to take a better step; the face. I ran and swiped it hard then reared around and bit its neck hard. It roared but didn’t give up; it just came back at me as if it thought it could win. I ran one last time: the final strike. I almost was hit but I bit its arm in secession. Then I let go and clung on to is arm with my claws. I ran up and head butted it in the face.
It roared in pain and I leaped back on it. I tore towards the face and bit its cheeks. I felt my teeth go through its cheeks and I bit his tong as hard as I could. It finally gave up and fainted from all of the pain. I jumped off his face and felt my body return to normal. When I was normal again I looked around and saw my armor lying in piece. When I changed it must have burst into pieces.
“What was that”?!?!? Carson said excitedly.
“I have no idea” I said solemnly.
We continued to venture up the mountain the next day. I grabbed my spear and long sword and we were off after breakfast. After hours of climbing we reached the top and saw a vast plain with a city in the middle. In this city was a castle of great glory. Beyond the plain was a rugged rock land with a glowing red hue to it. Then we saw a small shack and a log cabin with a woodpile and a chimney.
We walked to the house and knocked on the door. A shabby old man with a white beard appeared. He wore old rag looking cloth and seemed to live alone.
“Who are you? And what do you want?” the man said
“We have come for a shield. You bought it in the city of Nordic?” I responded
“What do you want with that shield? It’s mine and nobody else’s!”
“We need it to slay a dragon”
At this the man jumped up and ran in his house. He reappeared with a fancy looking shield made of wood and had a steel bolt in the middle. It had a steel outlining and was coated in a special transparent plastic. This is what makes the shield anti-dragon. It can handle fire, poison, fire, ice, and lava without breaking.
“You want this thing”? The man asked
I nodded my head and he gave it to us; just like that! I took the shield from him and gave him a few items to protect him. Then we descended the mountain: seeing many Pyrefeinds along the way.
Chapter 10
Granted
We entered the city and saw a magnificent site. Crowds gathering and nights in white armor were walking around. These were the white knights Carsenia and were very fierce. We went to the palace and saw a large, wooden drawbridge surrounded by water. There were a small group of white knights guarding the entrance to the castle. They looked more kind than deadly.
When they saw us approaching the castle they jumped to attention.
“Identify yourself”! The first knight said.
“We are here to see the king; we need him to help us kill a dragon.” I said.
“Do you have the proper clarification”? The same knight asked.
“Um…”
“No clarification, no king” The guard said and resumed his stance.
Then I knew how to get in! I raised my sword; glistening in the sun and the knights examined it. They nodded their heads and stepped out of the way. They kneeled down and let me through.
“How did you do that”? Carson asked.
“This sword is the sign of a dragon slayer. They are highly respected around here so we have access to every room in the palace”.
Sean grinned and we walked down the main hall of the castle. The castle was all made of white bricks and gave me a headache after a while. The castle had a magnificent variety of suits of armor and weapons that were on display. Then we saw a torture chamber. It had racks and a guillotine. There was blood everywhere, splattered from slaughtering rebels and people prisoners of war. There were gallows and skeletons handcuffed to the wall. It was disgusting.
Then we saw the mighty door leading to the throne room. There were even more guards guarding this door. I walked over and held up my sword and they stepped aside. Then I walked into the magnificent chamber. There were servants and people walking around by permission of the king
I raised my sword and everything stopped. The servants froze and the king looked straight into my eyes. He seemed stunned, and then he spoke.
“Oh! Loyal dragon slayer! We grant you anything you wish”!
“We need some armor. Dragon armor. Did you not buy some from a shop in Nordic city”?
“Yes…but that armor is sacred.”
The king seemed to wait a little while and think. He was considering the odds of killing the dragon we seek. He raised his hand and spoke again:
“Granted!”
There was a cheer from the servants and we followed an elite white knight and a small pixie out into the hall.
At the end of the hall was a cage containing the most magnificent armor I have ever seen. The pixie gave out a little girlish laugh, waved her hand and said,
“Sinfoures-macrin-carmosian!”
It was a spell to get into the cage. The door creaked and I saw into the eyes of the helmet for the first time.
Chapter 11
The protectorate
I was laced in a layer of dragon chain male followed by a layer of black dragon hide and then came the plate body. It looked like any other plate body only it had a design; there were pictures of dragons on it and the back kind of had spikes so that it looked I had veridical spikes growing out of my back.
I thought that the shoulder pads looked pretty cool, they looked like any other shoulder pad but there was spikes lashing out of them and the back had a small chain male whip that connected to my pants (I have no idea what that was for, but who cares: its armor!)
Then my leggings where put on. They had nothing really special about them except that they were made of dragon and that they had a few small spikes running down the sides. Then I was fitted with the boots. They where made of black dragon hide and had a small patch of dragon armor on the top. There was a patch of dragon on the tips so it looked like a steel-toed boot. There were spikes coming out of the end as well.
Then Sean came out of a door wearing a royal-looking white dress with Carson beside her.
“You look nice” I said.
“Thank you, you look fierce.”
“Well I’m going to have to be.”
“What about me” Carson whined.
“You just look like…Carson” I said back.
We all laughed and a servant passed me my gloves. They were dragon hide with a lacing of spiked dragon armor; prefect for punching. An elf carrying a large elvian blade called to me and I followed him to the king’s chamber door. He slipped in and left us out side.
Then I pushed the door open and saw a huge party with the king and all. I walked down a red carpet down the center of the chamber with crowds of people on either side. They were cheering and laughing for a reason I did not understand. I walked up to the king and he told me to kneel.
He raised his sword and placed it flat on my shoulder. He repeated this process on my other shoulder. Then he spoke:
“I pronounce you Chrons! Dragon slayer of Carsenia! Knight of this land! You will be a hero of times of old and times of new! You will bring love and prosperity to our land! You, Chrons, will be our victor! You are the new protectorate of Carsenia!!!”
There was a huge cheer from the crowed as my helmet was passed down the isle. It was an awesome sight that helmet. It resembled a face that of a dragon. The top looked like a dragon’s fore-head and came down to the eyes were you see from. By my nose and mouth was where the snout was. There was no lower jaw so you could see my chin and all the teeth of this dragon-like helmet.
The eyes looked vicious and made the helmet look almost scary. I put it on and then one more huge cheer came up from the crowd. The next thing I know I was outside the castle with the king and a few white knights holding dragon weapons. The king gave me, Carson and Sean his finest horses and told the white knights to come with us.
When we set out on our way we could smell the brimstone. Evil was closing in on us but we ventured forward. The grown started to glow red and we saw dead trees and lava. We had to leave one of the weakest knights to face a small lesser demon, we didn’t have time for a fight: yet.
We saw things that most people have only seen in there nightmares: bottomless pits, evil spirits, ruined castles and structures, and forbidden temples to evil spirits. Then Carson stopped dead in his tracks, he froze and wouldn’t move: he was possessed.
He turned white and fell to the ground.
“I’ll go get help” said Sean.
“Yes. Bring this white knight with you.” I tapped a knight’s shoulder and he followed Sean on horse back. I had to stop and get off my horse to get through a blazing fire, then a small field of ice and a few places where lightning had struck; the king dragon was here, and growing closer every minute.
Then we rounded a small hill, crossed a huge cavern on a rickety old bridge suspended by ropes. Then we saw it; a huge, just massive creature in a pit surrounded by a small moat of lava. There was a land arch going over the lava that acted as a bridge. On this “bridge” were a few spears with skulls on them and a singed bush.
The dragon looked me straight in the eye and I knew what I had to do. I was the newly anointed dragon slayer of Carsenia; and I will kill the dragon.
Chapter 12
Magic
I walked over the land arch with the knights. When I got to the other side of the arch it immediately collapsed sending 2 or 3 knights into the boiling lava below. I walked up to where the dragon was sitting and I heard a voice.
“Halt!”
I turned and saw a person in black armor that had gold trimming and a small reddish tint.
“Who are you?” I responded
“I am…Hakurei…dragon rider.”
“I have come to slay you and your dragon so lets make this quick.”
“So be it” he said.
He lunged out at me and the dragon king gave a mighty roar. I jumped to the side and smashed him with the dull end of my spear. He turned to face me and laughed.
“Prepare to die”.
He brought his hands to his head and took his helm off. I almost fainted at what I saw: his face was scaly and he had small horns poking through his skin. This man was ½ dragon, ¼ human and ¼ pure evil. He had nothing in his eyes but blackness and the desire to kill.
He drew a sword made of diamond and platinum; it was a massive halberd. It had fur around the blade and the sword so I could not see where they connected. He jumped at me and I struck his halberd with my sword, causing sparks to fly. The dragon king let out a lash of hot fire and I did a backwards summersault to dodge it while Hakurei was engulfed in flames.
I grinned but my smile faded when he stepped out of the fire; completely unhurt.
“Don’t forget, this is my dragon; I am immune to his attacks.”
“Well you’re going to burn anyway!”
I jumped out at him as hard as I could and struck the ground in front of him and yelled,
“Crasnoz!!!”
This was magic; it will only fire up when the user awakens it; like when I turned into a hellhound. The ground in front of my sword burst open as the ground tore up in Hakurei’s direction. In this ground was a yellow substance; pure light.
This is one of the most difficult spells as it deals with the 1 of the 2 only pure substances ever; pure light and pure evil.
“Oh, how cute; the dragon slayer knows magic. You want magic? Ill give you magic! Sincraslon!!!”
The ground in front of him burst up with a reddish blackish glow and came tearing at me. The two chasms of pure evil and light collided and a huge explosion took over the pit. A few of my knights were blasted into the lava and died. I skidded back in till my legs gave way and I was in the air: headed straight for the lava!
I waited in till I opened my eyes. I was on the lava but not dead; I was on my anti-dragon shield! I surfed back to the shore, grabbed my shield from under my feat, and went running at Hakurei. I swiped but missed and he did a reverse move on me; knocking me to my feet.
I was okay so I swiped at his feet then regained my position. The dragon let out a few blasts of ice and lightning but I broke the ice and used it as a conductor for the lightning. I then hurled my spear at the dragon as hard as I could and I got a direct hit! I hit it in the chest area and hurt it a lot; but it got it pretty mad!
It charged at me but I jumped out of the way and sliced its hard under belly; knocking the other dragon riders helmet out of my backpack. I stood up, picked up the helmet and saw Hakurei’s empty eyes lit up.
“I see you have killed my son…”
“Yep, now it’s your turn you freak!”
Chapter 13
The cavalry arrives
We were clashing swords for hours. I had to dodge the dragon, lunge at any chance I got, and worst of all; I had to put up with Hakurei’s annoying speeches. I was sweating hard when I heard a trumpet from not to far off. I looked in the direction of the setting sun and saw an amazing sight.
Carson and Sean were riding toward me but not alone, beside them were the king and the whole Carsenian armada. There were knights, squires, horses, archers, dwarves, elves, pixies, fairies, mages, sorcerers, goblins, ogres, and even a few towns’ people.
The whole army marched up to the pit and watched. A line of sorcerers raised their hands and said’
“Ryikoy!”
I felt tremendous power surge trough my body as I focused my next attack; a super lunge at the face.
Hakurei laughed and said,
“No man can defeat me!!! You will all die!!!”
“Well you’re going to die any way! Whether you like it or not!” I mocked
I lunged at his face and my sword slid perfectly through the mouthpiece of his helmet.
“Die…” I said
I twisted my sword at chucked his body over mine; straight for the lava.
“No!!!! I am immortal!!! I will kill yo…hisssssss!! No!!”
His body hit the lava and he melted through. I though he was gone but then a black skeleton rose from the lava all charred and burnt.
“I said I was immortal didn’t I? Oh, and did I tell you that when my soul leaves my body MY army will raise? Muhahahahahah!”
“You just won’t stay down will you?”
Just then a huge chunk of ground out of the pit burst open and hurled about 10 feet. Out of the hole came loads of monsters; golems, ogres, spirits, small dragons, demons, goblins, rock gnomes, skeletons and the occasional large, poisonous black ant.
This kept happening all around until it stopped. The evil army gathers into one large group and started charging at the king’s army. The king sounded a large trumpet and all the people braced themselves. Carson aimed his bow and shot a priciest arrow at a black ant killing it in the process.
I looked back at Hakurei who was positioning himself by the dragon; preparing to ride him. Out of the corner of my eye I saw my spear on the ground. I ran at it, picked it up and threw it at the dragon king. He roared, not noticing the spear, and the spear struck the middle head in the mouth causing him to release a large blast of fire which I guessed was like throwing up to a dragon.
My bone spear was incinerated instantly and all I saw were some pieces of super-heated iron fall from his mouth. The dragon then stood on its hind feet, took a deep breath and let out a furry of ice, fire and electricity. I blocked with my shield but the blast took a lot out of me. The dragon one again came charging at me and hit me hard with its front paws, or legs, I didn’t know what to call them.
When I awoke I saw Sean holding my head, dumping water on my heat to revive me, Carson keeping the dragon back with arrows and the king’s army fighting like mad.
“Chrons! Chrons! Wake up! Chrons!” Sean was yelling.
Her voice seemed to be the only thing I could hear, and yet it was so faint, so far away even though there were huge blasts of noise that I could sense; all the explosions from magic, all the swords clashing, all the yelling and screaming, all the bows strings, all of the clanging armor, yet all I could hear was Sean but then I heard Carson.
“Ya, just tell him not to go to the light, hey Chrons, don’t die now, can’t you wait?”
“Oh, shut up Carson.”
Then I started to hear it all come back until I heard it all, even the dreaded laughing of Hakurei’s skeleton. I raised myself from the ground and saw a tremendous amount of blood where I was lying. I had a bleeding nose and large cut in the right side of my fore head.
I stood straight up, retrieved my sword and got in ready stance. I dared the dragon to come closer and it did. It went in for another kick and I let it think it had me. At the last moment possible I put my sword above my head jumped out of the way and brought my sword don hard on the dragon’s toes. I managed to cut 3 ½ of them off when the dragon pulled back and tried to swipe me with the ice head.
It let out a fury of ice and trapped my in a box of ice. I stabbed the side and bent my sword, shattering the box in the process.
“That looked so cool!” Carson screamed
“Trying to slay a dragon here, hello!”
I lashed out for the dragons side but I was to slow and it whipped me with is tail. It hurt a lot but I managed to hang on to the scales at the end of the tail. I sort of shimmied up the dragon’s tail and when I got to the dragons back I turned, belly up and used the spikes on the back of my armor to jab the dragons back.
The dragon let out a huge roar of pain and fell to the ground. I raised myself up and slowly walked up to Hakurei’s skeleton. He turned but it was too late, I had his charred head in my hands. His skeleton fell off the dragon and shattered when it hit the ground. I then took Hakurei’s skull up to a rock in front of the ice head.
I began teasing the head. As it looked up it became outraged and used the last of its energy to let out a furry of ice. The head then fell to the ground panting. I went up to the dragon and drove my sword through its temple; making sure it felt all the pain in it.
The dead head slumped to the ground and died slowly. The furry of ice froze Hakurei’s skull solid so that it was just a cold hunk of ice with a skull in it. I threw the skull as far away as I could and it landed on an ogre's head. The ogre picked up the small, frozen skull and crushed it with his hands then threw the remains in a nearby tar pit: and like that, Hakurei was dead.
The 2 other heads saw their dead brother (or sister) and became enraged. They stood on their back feet and the center head breathed a column of fire at least 350 feet high into the air and the left head roared so loud that the whole battle instantly stopped so people could cover their ears.
The dragon stomped back on all fours so hard that Sean and Carson became unbalanced and fell. I, however, managed to stay on my feet out of pure want, want to kill the king dragon; for Sean.
Chapter 14
Final fight
The dragon’s eyes became slits as it ran at me and swatted me with its tail. I flew out of the pit into the battle field where I hit a black ant, killing it. I expected the king dragon to stay in the pit but all of a sudden, as quick as a fox, a black arrow shot up out of the pit; the king dragon. He had bin hiding some large wings on his back and was now flying around the battle field.
The third head had froze and fallen off, but left no wound. Sure, the dragon was still in pain but it only looked like a double headed dragon now, there were no remnants
The dragons eye is suppose to be the keenest eye in the world so the dragon easily picked me out of the crowd.
“Duck for cover!” I yelled at the people surrounding me, I took off my helmet and raised my sword, “to victory!!!”
My hair was wet from sweat but I still threw my helmet back on.
The dragon came at me at let out a blast of fire balls. One hit an ogre and killed it but the rest came for me. I blocked them with my shield but put a large dent in it by accident.
The dragon tore down at me with a layer of fire around it and nearly hit the ground but turned as it came too close. It still came for me, burning up everything it hit and when it was around 250 yards away I raised my sword and shield so that my shield was close to my chest and my sword was out straight.
The dragon hit me with tremendous speed. The center heads forehead drove down my sword and split in 2. The brain fell out and instantly burnt up. The head burnt into oblivion and then, as quick as lightning I swung over at the lightning head cutting it straight off. The dragon’s enormous body fell to the ground and died.
I walked up to the top of its back and stabbed my sword into its back.
“Victory! We won!”
Then it seemed as if time itself stopped. I saw my sword glow and a lonely, stranded spirit rose out of the swords blade.
“I…am Atrice the 5th… Thank you Chrons… Then all was silent. I suddenly felt weakened and fell to the ground unconscious. I started to dream, but it was more of a nightmare. In my dream there were people on a far-away island near the end of the earth crying out for help.
This island was Kariji Island, a resting place for souls, where eternity is balanced on a pinpont. The residents where calling my name in help as if they were being attacked. In the distance I saw a figure clad entirely in a large dark brown gown except for his hands. His hood hung over his head concealing his entire face.
In his right hand he had a scythe and in his left had he was holding his gown which seemed to extend for several meters.
“This... is the gown of souls…” the figure said, “it is made up… of the threads of people’s souls…”
The figure dropped the end of the gown in his left hand and put the scythe in both his hands.
“I want your soul!” The thing exclaimed as it lurched at me. I was no longer in any armor and was weaponless so I jumped out of the things reach. It let out a terrible laugh then looked up at me. All I could see were its beady red eyes.
“I will have your soul!” It said and the whole island was calm.
Chapter 15
Not over yet
I woke up in the castle hospital. There were nurses and doctors checking my body for a pulse and using small knives to take blood samples. When I awoke a doctor walked out of the room and returned with Carson and Sean.
Carson was on wooden crutches and had a stone cast on his right leg. Sean had a bandage rapped around her left wrist probably from bowstring bourn. She also had a bloodstained bandage on her right shoulder where she had come in contact with a goblins axe.
“You’re alive!” Sean was first to yell.
“We saw you kill the dragon and fain so we came running, that’s when a goblin jumped Sean.” Carson said.
“And what happened to you?” I asked
“Yah Carson, tell him what happened.” Sean said in a funny voice.
“I…uh…fell in an abandoned gopher hole…”
“Figures”
“Cross!” said a little voice from beside my bed. I turned to see that it was little Teras, who had come all the way her to see me.
“Hello Teras, it’s good to be back.”
I then looked at my right hand which had a strange mark on it, that resembled a dragon that had its wings spread a bit looking like it was making a turn. I knew where I had seen this mark before; it was the mark of the dragon slayer, only authorized on Kariji islands.
I then knew where I had to go. My mission was now a full circle. I must set off for Kariji Island as soon as I am well. The balance of eternity may depend on it.
Prologue
Later that day there was a huge festival over the victory of the dragon king. I kept the dream to myself but it wouldn’t stop haunting me. I was greatly rewarded for my efforts in killing Hakurei and the king. I was rewarded with 500 million coins! I could never buy all I ever wanted but it came close.
All species came from across the land to glorify me and give me gifts. If I truly was the chosen one what I had to do wasn’t complete. I kept getting an itchy feeling that I thought was an omen of bad things to come.
I though I might as well enjoy my self so I did. The festival went on long into the day and most of the night. That was a day that much was accomplished. A day that none will forget for a long, long time.
